The Toothpaste Lesson
I am surprised at how people continue to believe that "their emails are confidential" or "I only wanted my friends to read that post". As I was reminded earlier - nothing on the internet is confidential. I am shocked that people forget this (including me)! Many of us learned very early that before you put anything in writing, you should make sure you know your source and be positive that you are not offending anyone. I recently learned (in school) the importance of citing my sources. So whether it is repeating something that someone else has said - or spouting your own personal opinions - words are like toothpaste ... once it comes out of the toothpaste tube, you can't put it back! I think I shall put a small tube of toothpaste on my desk to remind myself of this very important lesson!
